Teaching American History: The Founding and Electoral College

Teaching American History: The Founding and Electoral CollegeApril 9, 2022, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. EST Location TBA. Learn how the Founding Fathers sought to formalize ideas of limited government, a new vision of federalism, and balance between Democratic and Republican ideals. Understand their journey to seek compromise and consensus between a diverse collection of geographic, economic, and ideological factions and viewpoints. This seminar will be conducted as a Socratic discussion, utilizing primary source documents and facilitated conversation. Registrants are highly encouraged to read the documents in advance (readings will be provided prior to the seminar. Come ready with questions. Grades 6-12. 3.5 hours PD credit. FREE. This seminar is brought to KHS by Teaching American History. TAH supports U.S. history, government, and civics teachers with document-based seminars, online and in print document collections, and other multimedia resources. This seminar will be led by Dr. J. David Alvis, associate professor of political science at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. REGISTER HERE! |

Seal of Arts Excellence Guidance Now Available
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is pleased to announce new guidance for establishing a local Seal of Arts Excellence to recognize high school graduates who demonstrate an advanced level of specialization in one or more areas of visual and performing arts. The guidance can be found on the Seal of Arts Excellence webpage.
A new feature for creating a Seal of Arts Excellence on a student’s transcript will be available in Infinite Campus for the 2022-2023 school year. Districts will have the option of adding a Seal of Arts Excellence to a student’s transcript through the Graduation Tab that will include the date of completion as well as the area of specialization. SBDM Election Kit
Now included FREE with membership! Access to our election kit is available to all KASC members through our Learning Management System (LMS). The kit includes advice for developing written procedures, guidance for online elections, forms to customize for every step of the process, and legal requirements. Everything is organized for the person/group running each election, so organizers don’t have to view the entire kit.
Academic Standards Family Guides Available
The Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) family guides were developed to help families familiarize themselves with the content of each grade level’s standards. Each guide contains a standards overview for reading and writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. The guides are now available in Spanish and can be accessed on the Standards Family Guides & Resources webpage on the KY Standards website.

KyMTSS is a multi-level prevention system to support student achievement and social-emotional behavioral competencies through the integration of differentiated core instruction, assessment, and intervention.
