SPEAK 8: CLOUDSPEAK

NewSPEAK: Cloud City will be held virtually September 19. This online professional development is for teachers and coaches new to the world of competitive speech/drama/debate as well as to any teachers of English/Language Arts, social studies, theatre, and communications. SPEAK 8: CLOUDSPEAK will be held virtually October 3. This online professional development is for teachers and coaches in the world of competitive speech/drama/debate as well as to any teachers of English/Language Arts, social studies, theatre, and communications. Six hours of professional development are offered for $25; newbies to the field can pair this day's sessions with NewSPEAK Cloud City on September 19 for a discounted price of $40 for both days. Co-sponsored by the five speech and debate organizations in Kentucky (the Kentucky High School Speech League, the Wilson Wyatt Debate League, the Kentucky Educational Speech and Drama Association, and the Kentucky divisions of the National Speech and Debate Association and the National Catholic Forensic League), our 8th statewide conference will feature National Hall of Fame coaches Pam Cady and Joe Wycoff (Apple Valley High School, Minnesota) leading a virtual session on Original Oratory, the speechwriting competition named for them at the national speech and debate tournament. Seal of Arts Excellence Guidance Now Available
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is pleased to announce new guidance for establishing a local Seal of Arts Excellence to recognize high school graduates who demonstrate an advanced level of specialization in one or more areas of visual and performing arts. The guidance can be found on the Seal of Arts Excellence webpage.
A new feature for creating a Seal of Arts Excellence on a student’s transcript will be available in Infinite Campus for the 2022-2023 school year. Districts will have the option of adding a Seal of Arts Excellence to a student’s transcript through the Graduation Tab that will include the date of completion as well as the area of specialization. SBDM Election Kit
Now included FREE with membership! Access to our election kit is available to all KASC members through our Learning Management System (LMS). The kit includes advice for developing written procedures, guidance for online elections, forms to customize for every step of the process, and legal requirements. Everything is organized for the person/group running each election, so organizers don’t have to view the entire kit.
Academic Standards Family Guides Available
The Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) family guides were developed to help families familiarize themselves with the content of each grade level’s standards. Each guide contains a standards overview for reading and writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. The guides are now available in Spanish and can be accessed on the Standards Family Guides & Resources webpage on the KY Standards website.
