Summer Reading Book Group Opportunity

Anyone reading this article will have the first shot at a new book group focused on a quartet of texts--Walter McMillan's story of his arrest and years on death row after being falsely imprisoned for murder, the "60 Minutes" episode which turned the tide for Walter and his appeals, his lawyer's account of the ordeal, "Just Mercy" and the new movie of the same title which stars Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx.

Walter was sentenced to die in 1988 for the murder of an 18-year-old white woman after a day-and-a-half trial in which the jury ignored the testimony of multiple black witnesses who swore McMillan was at a fish fry at the time of the crime.

To be one of the lucky 6 to receive a copy of either the Young Adult version or the full text, contact [email protected].  Even if you miss getting a free copy, however, you are still welcome to join the book group, which will meet 3 times this summer to share thoughts on the story.  Dates TBA by the group.
